Foster Care FAQ: Can you have a full time job and foster?

YES! And in fact, you have to prove that you are earning an income in order to be licensed to foster. Depending on the county, foster parents can access childcare and transportation to help accommodate work schedules. But just like parenting any child, there will be times where you have to take time off work to accommodate a sick child, doctor's appointment, etc.

I find that the first month is the most packed with appointments, so be sure you chat with your employer to understand when your schedule can be flexible.

It’s also important to note that in some areas, they require one parent to stay home. I’d love to hear how it works in your area!
