Tips for New Parents
I was a first-time parent when I became a foster parent. In this course, I share with you small modifications I've made in my home that I wish someone shared with me when I first started!

Hello, I'm Laura!
Several years ago, I was in your shoes! I had the growing desire from a young age to be a foster parent, and I decided to finally put the desire into action. I was nervous and confused on how to get started. When the first call came in for a potential sibling set, I had to say no. It was hard. This "hard" was nothing compared to what I faced in the years to come.
My biggest struggle was finding a mentor, a partner, and someone I could turn to and ask questions. I attended an AWESOME support group once a month with foster parents, but that was swiftly taken away when COVID hit. I knew I wasn't the only one who needed support.
So that is why I am here today. Your partner. Your support. I'm here to provide practical advice that you can put into action right away as you navigate services, safety, and families. I will say the things no one wants to say and paint a realistic picture of foster parenting.
I am here for you, I can help you, and I will tell you the truth. I look forward to learning more about you, your "why", and how we can best serve the children and families in our care!
As some background about me:
I started my foster care journey in 2018. My husband and I typically welcome in babies to elementary-age kids. We foster two kids at a time (siblings) and are certified as a therapeutic foster home in California (meaning we have extra training for kids with a higher level of needs).
