Foster Care Journal
Promocode: LAURA10 for 10% off!
This is an AMAZING journal to help a foster parent keep track of appointments & kids' needs.
Special magnets for foster parenting related appointments and meetings. Lower anxiety by foreshadowing for a child in care.
This is also a great way to support my free educational content.
This is a great way to mark the year by including all of the kids they fostered that year.
Other Sentimental Ideas
Personalized pillow cases, mugs, calendars, water bottles, etc., that includes the kids' names or photos that they have cared for.
For the grieving foster parent
A grief diary/book/journal can help support them on this journey.
Garden rocks or plants are also great items for a foster parent who is grieving.
I love these! We use them to snap quick quotos to give to bio parents or photos for the life book. It makes it super easy to quick print photos of new kids in the home to hang up on mirrors and the fridge.
This would also make a great bio parent gift so they can take pictures of their kids at visits and have a physical copy.
Calendar that supports kids in care
Purchase one of these calendars and the proceeds will go to nonprofit, Americas Kids Belong, which supports kids in foster care.
Soap that supports adoptees
Purchase one of these soaps and the proceeds go to nonprofit, Adoptee Mentoring Society, which is a mentorship program for adoptees. The mentorship society is founded and operated by a former foster youth.
A gift for your child's bio parent
Gift a craft the child completed at school or in your home. You can also purchase a kit and bring to a visit for the family to do together.
Have the child bake something sweet to share at the visit or purchase a gingerbread house or cookie decorating kit for the family to do together at a visit.
Frame a photo of their child and even have the child decorate the frame!
You can also consider doing a printed photobook or calendar with their photos or a personalized item like a mug or waterbottle.
Let the child decide!
Take the child to the store and have them pick out something special for their parent.
Care package / basket
Put together a basket of goodies based on their interest or hobbie! This could be gardening, cooking, a sports team, music, or even a self care basket!
Gift Card *
Gift cards can be helpful and appreciated for parents! *Be sure you get worker permission before including this.
Make something fun like a Starbucks gift card paired with a coffee mug with a photo of their child.
Here are some of my favorite items for kids
...That are also therapeutic or support sensory needs.
Love this for a variety of ages! If your child likes this, feeling, you can also get a Lycra sheet for their bed.
Weighted Stuffed Animal
Weighted, scented, and you can heat it up for a full sensory experience. This is our favorite.
Make your own story
Kids decorate pages and you send it off to this company that makes it into a bound storybook.
This is incredibly helpful for kids to understand their story and timeline of events. It can also serve as a memory book if they are not in contact with their parents right now.
A comfort item you can wear! Older kids love these (so do I!) And yes, they make them in adult sizes too!
There are many options for sensory lamps and aquariums (that don't require live fish!). There are bubbles, fish, jelly fish, etc. They are great for bedrooms for kids who struggle with sleep or can help to soothe and calm.
My favorite things 😊
You can add these to your wishlist!
Love these, you can put on your shoes without your hands! My hands are always full of binders, bags, and kids!
I spend so much time in my car traveling from all of the appointments, visits, and meetings. I love music, and use music as a tool to help kids regulate, focus, decompress from hard moments. Sirius XM has something for everyone. Even Kidz Bop lol I also like that I don't have to stream from my device to play it in the car.
I don't have any discounts, but they often run SO many deals - if you talk to them on the phone you can sometimes negotiate.
I don't drink wine anymore, and this has been an incredible replacement for me (it is non alcoholic).
This is by far my favorite, but please know, if you don't know Sangria or Vineger, you probably won't like these! :)
I love them so much that I signed up to be an affiliate and earn a commission. This doesn't cost you more!
These are my favorite ear plugs. I also appreciate that they are almost totally hidden when you wear them.
They don't block the sound, they just bring the sound down to a level that doesn't hurt.
This is a must-have for migraine prevention!
Monkey Island Games
I am a huge nerd! :) I love this series of point and click adventure games. This is "me time" and part of my self care - if you love computer games, check this one out!
Bug Bite Thing
This would make a great stocking stuffer :) I love this for bug bites - my skin always reacts so intensely from mosquitoes and this is SO helpful!
Escape Room Boxes
After the kids go to bed, my husband and I love to do escape room boxes. Exit games is our favorite brand - this is a great one.
First - NO - I don't use these to create social media signs with foster kids.
Instead, I use these to create welcome messages for new kids that come in, affirmation messages, and to celebrate birthdays & accomplishments. I have this in the front of my home, and it also is a great reminder to workers that come through so they can share in celebrations.
